I only had a chance to watch the first half before work today, and am not really looking forward to the second...but ugh. We're so done unless we can beat Italy, which on this form, not a chance. The U.S. actually reminded me a bit of Iran (Oh The Irony!) - talented players who just didn't seem to 'get it' at this level. There was also a glaring difference in the quality of the midfielders - Nedved and Rosicky moved all over the filed, finding space to make plays. With Reyna largely subdued, we didn't have that. Additionally, at this stage of his career, he's not the box-to-box player he once was. The player best suited to the role is probably Donanvan, and considering his lack of scoring recently, we probably don't lose much by dropping him into midfield.
Alternatively, after I watch the second half tonight I may just declare it hopeless.

Don't hold your breath for the second half. They looked horrible. I started wondering if they were trying to re-enact the 5-0 drubbing we got by the Czechs in 1990.
Big uphill climb from here on out -- just have to win against Italy, that's all! -- but let's hope Arena can stick his foot far enough up their asses to motivate them.
Long rant on the World Cup at my place, Pooh, if you're interested. (Actually, it's still at my place even if you aren't interested.)
