Riddle Me This (or: Stick that in Your Textualist Pipe and Smoke It)

Why is it ok for there to be reasonable restrictions of Freedom of Speech in terms of Time, Place or Manner of said expression, yet many view any restriction on the right to bear arms is per se unreasonable?

Because stupid people aren't able to use speech in an effective way anyway, so they resort to violence and weapons to express themselves?

God forbid you interfere with their freedom of expression...

I've actually got some interesting responses on another site. Largely, they feel that I'm framing the question wrong, in that they agree with reasonable restrictions on guns, just that A) the restrictions sought to be imposed are not reasonable, and B) gun opponents won't stop there if these 'reasonable' measures are passed. Cogent points on which I might just have to agree to disagree...
