Thin-Skinned

The Kansas State Board of Education lacks a sense of humor:
State Board of Education member Connie Morris took exception Wednesday to a picture of a made-up creature that satirizes the state's new science standards hanging on a Stucky Middle School teacher's door.

Fellow board member Sue Gamble told The Eagle that Morris asked for the picture to be removed.
The Flying Spaghettin Monster never stops being funny for me. Is it disrespectful? I suppose, but no more so than calling Intelligent Design (as currently espoused) 'science'.

I've said it before, I'll probably say it again, religion and science are not exclusive (though they are obviously oppositional at times.) There will always be things that we don't know, and for some, that unknown requires or at least allows Faith. But for discoverable knowledge, we rely on demonstrable evidence, and replicability and all of the other things that make the Scientific Method important.

The whole Kansas Board of Education is a fiasco, especially when one is a Kansan. Nothing like watching one's home state become a national laughing stock. Kansas used to be a progressive educational state. No longer. It's sad.
